How have I helped clients?
Case Study 1
Two business owners described themselves as "at a crossroads", unclear as to whether to commit to a long term future of working with the business in its current state. They didn't feel able to take much annual holiday away from the business, and wanted to decide how long they had to work before retirement.
I worked with these two individuals in a number of areas, starting by summarising the various activities needed in a strategic plan. I helped them to clarify the current value of the business compared to their goal for a value on exit, and a step plan of how the value might be improved over a timeframe they could live with. I also worked with them on restructuring the employee team to enable greater delegation by the MD, and helped them assess the benefits of a major investment that would improve profitability.
Outcome: the owners decided to stay in the business for another 8 years, with a significant increase in potential value available at exit, while taking much more annual leave per year.
Case Study 2
I advised a growing organisation undergoing a significant transformation program. I developed guidance on governance and staff structures, policies and reporting, financial budgets and operational cost reduction initiatives, as well as assisting with grant applications and fundraising.
Outcome: a recurring satisfied client, who introduced me to other potential clients as a trusted advisor.
Case Study 3
I was asked by a small local organisation to help them clarify their strategic plan, as they had spent time working up a long document that the staff and board found neither practical nor useful.
I spent 2 or 3 hours with the director and was able to summarise the key strands of their strategic plan onto one page, with a supporting detailed plan of actions and responsibilities on a further page.
Outcome: clarity of direction and a plan that was pinned to the office wall for reference.
